Nebraska City Nebraska    to     Falls City Nebraska

Miles Biked Today  50   Total Miles 100

What a way to wake up, being hosted by Joan Dawson in her 1888 vintage home loaded with fantastic antiques and love. We woke up feeling like we were in heaven, well I think that is where we were. We then were escorted to the Lied Lodge for breakfast with Joan & the Doc Alfred Gigstad where he treated us.

We quickly were escorted to the Morton house, it was beautiful! Now getting later went to Joan's store Downtown where Brains of the outfit - ME!! - locked the keys in the van again!  I got them out with a flag pole she had in the shop. We wish we could of stayed as Joan was much to do with the celebration weekend of Apple Days. Nebraska City is the birth place of Arbor Day, and we got a really neat quick tour around that beautiful city.

The Doc then guided us to the Lewis & Clark Trail where they rode to Peru NE. Tony was carefully making sure Patricia did not slip & fall as this trail was gravel. Well, our fearless leader, Triathlon Man, found himself in a ditch, Patricia looked back and "tahdah" Tony was in the weeds with the thousands of grasshoppers & bugs that infested the trails. This is where Patricia swallowed some bugs - Yummy! - & had them splattered on her face, I was laughing so hard! I went on to Peru where Tony & Patricia found me.

We were then greeted by the Newmaha County Herald's very own Gary Black and we did another interview. Off to the next town of Brownsville NE , I drove around after I arrived as Patricia & Tony were still traveling on the Lewis & Clark Trail. In to Brownsville NE, a cute little town where again they rested & fueled up with food & off again.

The next leg of the trip was on the way to Falls City, NE. There were a lot of hills and I felt so sorry for them as all I had to do is push the gas pedal in the van.

It was beautiful coming into Falls City, as we came we were greeted by a sign on the liquor store saying "Welcome Patricia Starr". We then went to the Stevenson hotel, as recommended by the Falls City Chamber of Commerce, a building built in 1924 and currently being remodeled, so a handful of rooms were available.

This was a very quite town, the hotel had the old kind of phone system which you plug into through the switch board & an elevator that still operated with the old fashioned cages with an up and down switch lever. We found the only restaurant still open on a Saturday night at 9 pm, we had a great Chinese meal followed by a good nights sleep.

All in all we are pleased with our progress though it is a bit slower than expected. We had not planned for Patricia to be stopped so often along the road by well-wishers who had seen or read about the trip. Note on weather: we experienced some high overcast clouds offering intermittent shade, the temps where in the high 70's with a light wind, the humidity was not an over-whelming factor.

God Bless,
Gabriel and Patricia
