Coming out of Atchison was scary!  Up, onto and over the bridge over the Missouri is an experience on a bicycle.  The surface was metal pieces all fit together as a jigsaw puzzle and looked like they could grab your tire and hold on at any time.  I breathed a long sigh as I exited into the state of Missouri.  Tony stayed directly behind me to hold traffic back as there was no space for anyone to move over.  It is comforting to have a 6'5 tri-athlete looking out for me!

 

The morning ride was along the train tracks with the bluffs behind so we sailed along. We saw several double big-rigs hauling tobacco leaves piled so high, the leaves were making a skirt around the truck.

 

The afternoon was one huge hill after another.  Am I going to survive Missouri?
