October 7th,   Day 19

Miles Biked Today 83  -Total Miles 1,150

Hi Everyone--We're parked here in Richmond for the next couple of days and it feels really good to not have to pack up and leave every day. We did a good job of moving ourselves to the coast so we will be in position to take the Lewes Ferry on Sunday to put us on the peninsula. We're not packing up but my biking has to continue. I had a great day today pedaling 83 miles--sometimes I even amaze myself!  Betty, one of our pageant friends in the city advised me of a safe frontage road and adjoining neighborhood where I could pedal my heart out, which I did.  I plan to go back tomorrow and pedal there and hope no one calls the cops to report a crazy lady wearing a bicycle helmet with a tiara on it doing laps in their neighborhood! I feel so good to know the two lane highways we shared with all the trucks are in our past and we are still alive. I am not ready to be the "angel" on my handlebars but still have nightmares about my close call.

The magic number of miles pedaled is now 1134 so that leaves only 266 to conquer in the next few days. Tony has a friend here from Wahoo for a few days so I told them to go have fun and explore the city today as I was only a few blocks from the motel where Gabriel was working and if I had a flat, I could push my bike there.

We're so excited about Monday but also starting to relax to know we survived our "bumbling" across the country--not knowing anything about anything! We only knew we had to be on those bikes all day to make the miles and some of the treacherous days with nothing but trucks and huge hills really slowed us down mileage-wise. We are all caught up now and even a little ahead so that feels good. Haven't even made more than two or three phone calls--there just wasn't time but that didn't mean I wasn't thinking about all the wonderful people we have met along the way; the awesome gang at Wahoo who sent us off in such grand style--Jerry, Julie and Eric and all the kids and Christy and Irene and Joyce, Marlis, and Harvey from my class and on and on! The bed behind me is so enticing so I'm saying good night.

Love, Patricia

I have to add my comments too--I finally got someone to work on my computer and said I needed to change servers so they could "talk" so hopefully I can get pictures to you tomorrow--I have been so frustrated as I  have hundreds and the website has been blank because I couldn't send them. I got back from the computer shop just as Patricia pulled in. She continues to amaze me as she had been out four times today to keep adding miles. She will not give up and is so focused on her goal. Focusing isn't one of my high points so I certainly can admire it in her. It's been a lot of work but we are enjoying all the adventures out here and seeing all the beautiful country along the way.

Peace to all--Gabriel
